This evening, Rotary Club of York visited the PACT Urban Peace Program at the David Wilson Memorial Park behind John Polanyi CI in North York.

The tour was led by David Lockett, co-founder of PACT and a fellow Rotarian from Parkdale. Mr. Lockett spoke at our regular meeting a few months ago to present his organization. Rotary Club of York is currently considering sponsoring the program.

The David Wilson Memorial Garden is an 8-acre park owned by the Toronto District School Board. PACT has a longstanding agreement with the TDSB to operate programming on site and maintain the green space. Over the years, PACT has transformed the land into a fully functioning urban garden, with various vegetable crops, a chicken farm, outdoor oven, and activity space.

It was a great opportunity to see first-hand what the program has developed over the year and the obvious potential for experiential learning.
