IPP Rotarian Tonny Wong on WOW TV Promoting Rotary

IPP Rotarian Tonny Wong represented our club on both the Cantonese and the Mandarin WOW TV talk shows to promote "What is Rotary" on May 20. He introduced Rotary by talking about the formation of our first Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois by our Founder Paul Harris in 1905 and how Rotary expanded beyond serving club members' professional and social interests to how Rotarians began pooling their resources and contributing their talents to help serve communities in need. He acknowledged the success of Rotary in our Rotary motto: Service Above Self. Rotary now has over 1.2 million members worldwide.
IPP Tonny further outlined the major achievements of Rotary both internationally and locally. He said, ‘Rotary has actively participated in many charity and humanitarian projects. Wherever there is a need, Rotary will be there to help. There is no boundary."
He continued by mentioning the efforts of the Rotary Club of York in the international community and our local York Region community, such as: Clean drinking water projects in Yunnan & Sichuan provinces, China; Gift of Life program - Sponsored a child from Shanghai, China to have life-saving heart surgery in the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital; Carefirst's transportation van for the senior citizens - Providing needy transportation for our Chinese seniors; Community Safety Village of York Region - Teaching children to cross the road safely; Brush-a-mania - Teaching students with good denial hygiene, Snoezelen Project for Mon Sheong Longterm Care - Providing therapeutic equipment to seniors who suffer from Alzheimer, dementia, developmental disabilities and brain injury Polio Plus International Project - To eradicate polio worldwide.
