Snoezelen Project for Mon Sheong Longterm Care, January 2009
Members of Rotary Club of York helped to fund the purchase of a Snoezelen (medical equipment) for Mon Sheong Adult Day Care Center. On January 31, 2009, the donation of $5,000.00 was presented to Mon Sheong Longterm Care Centres in Richmond Hill. The contribution has made possible for Mon Sheong Adult Day Care Centres to equip their day care program with Snoezelen Bubble Tube and Fiber-Optic set.
Mon Sheong Longterm Care Centres are operated by Mon Sheong Foundation, a Canadian registered charitable organization. Mon Sheong Longterm Care Centres are dedicated in providing quality adult day care services for hundreds of Chinese families in the Greater Toronto Area.
Seniors in the Day Care Program who suffer from Alzheimer, dementia, developmental disabilities and brain injury will greatly benefit from the use of the Snoezelen equipment. The Snoezelen equipment can provide stimulation for those whom the staff would otherwise be almost impossible to interact with. Having regular therapeutic treatment by Snoezelen, these seniors may result in a 50% reduction in distress and stereotypical behavior, and 75% less aggression and self-injury.
