Bowl For Seniors at Club 300 Bowl, Scarborough, July 24, 2010

Our club participated in this annual fund raising event for Carefirst Seniors and Community Services Association. RCOY 's three bowling teams attended this year's event.

RCOY participated in this event. All financial proceeds of this event go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  

Batteries Recycle - Joint Project with Ecowatch, 2010
The city of Markham is proposing to provide a one time funding of $10k to this project. Currently, 10 schools in Markham are involved in the project.

Batteries for Burgers, June 5, 2010
In an effort to promote the responsible disposal of batteries, Ecowatch and the Town of Markham, supported by RCOY are holding a free BBQ in exchange for old used batteries. Learn more about how you can reduce the threat from this environmental hazard. Visit Ecowatch.

 

The Trump AIDS Poker Walk, the Toronto Habourfront, April 24, 2010

RCOY's Royal Flush of York was one of the largest teams. We thanks our members & their friends who supported this event. Our especially thanks go to the team leader Fion for organizing and drumming up donations. 


Mosaic Interfaith Out Of The Cold, 2009

At our RCOY Xmas Party on Dec. 15th, we were able to raise $1000 to donate to Mosaic Interfaith Out Of The Cold. The programs provide safe refuge, warm hospitality and emergency shelter in York Region to the homeless or those in need of food/clothing. Overnight shelters are operated by various interfaith communities on different nights of the week during the coldest months of the year (November to March). 


Daily Bread Food Bank's 3rd annual 24-Hour Food Sort

The event raised $33,744 through sponsorship, participation fees & pledges. The money raised went directly towards Daily Bread Food Bank's 164 member agencies, which serve 952,000 clients in the Greater Toronto Area every year, 34% of whom are children. The club had over 20 Rotarians and their families participated in the event. The group had efficiently sorted and packed 3000 lbs of foods in 70 minutes. Everyone enjoyed this event and had a great time.The club also donated $1,000.00 on top of all donations collected to the Daily Food Bank to support this event.

Cathay Ball 2009 for Mon Sheong Foundation, International Centre, Sat. Nov. 7, 2009

Six Rotarians and family attended this event. All proceeds go to support the Long-term Care Centres and other services of the Mon Sheong Foundation.

Rotary District Foundation Walk, Trenton, Sept. 27, 2009
The event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Quinte West.  Over 20 of our Rotarians, and their friends and family made the trip out to the Military Forces Base in Trenton on an early Sunday morning.  Despite the weather, everyone had a good time learning about the air base, and the different planes.


2009 Fundraising Gala, Sheraton Parkway Hotel, Richmond Hill, Sept. 26, 2009
Net Proceeds of this event, app. $28,000, go to support Rotary International projects as well as local community projects.

Charity Golf Tournament at Diamondback Golf Club, Richomnd Hill,  June 23, 2009
Over 80 golfers from the Rotary Clubs of York and Forest Hill, and members of our community showed up at Diamondback Golf Club for a friendly round of golf. All proceeds of app. $11,000 are to be donated to Polio Plus to help end the disease. The Rotary Club of York would like to give thanks to everyone who participated and volunteered in the event to make this year's golf tournament yet another success. 


International Night Challenge Gala, Le Parc, Thornhill, May 14, 2009
Fund raising event to support the Honduras Market Children,The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill in association with a number of Rotary Clubs including the Rotary Club of York and Woodbridge, held a gala event at Le Parc Banquet Hall to raise funds that would be used to provide children in Honduras with tuition and school supplies.

Brush-a-Mania, April, 2009
April is proclaimed the "Oral Health" month. Ontario Dental Association together with Rotary Club organized visits and presentations to Ontario elementary school children to promote good oral hygiene. The participating dentists together with our Rotarians and David How organized presentations and gave demonstrations of good oral hygiene in Ontario elementary schools.

10,000 Trees for the Rouge Valley, April 26, 2009
10,000 Trees for the Rouge Valley is a volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to restore natural habitat within the Rouge Valley, located on the northeastern outskirts of Toronto. They organize a public one-day tree planting annually during Earth Week. PP Rotarian David How, his family and members of the Agincourt Rotary Club participated in this year's event. Snoezelen Project for Mon Sheong Longterm Care, January 31, 2009
Members of Rotary Club of York helped to fund the purchase of a Snoezelen (medical equipment) for Mon Sheong Adult Day Care Center. On January 31, 2009, the donation of $5,000.00 was presented to Mon Sheong Longterm Care Centres in Richmond Hill. The contribution has made possible for Mon Sheong Adult Day Care Centres to equip their day care program with Snoezelen Bubble Tube and Fiber-Optic set.


Other Community Projects

 

Throughout the past several years, the club members had actively participated and volunteered in community and charitable events, such as:

- Rotary Drive Project - to build houses for low income families;

- Bowl For Seniors - a fundraising event for the Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association;

- China Earthquake - natural disaster relief fundraising campaign
- Chinese Arts and Literacy Contest for Youth

- Local church's Fundraising campaign

- York Central Hospital, Scarborough Hospital Urban Outreach Program fundraising campaign

- Community Safety Village of York Region

- Sponsorship for Carefirst's transportation van for the senior citizens

- Initiated RCOY 4 Way Test Award, to be presented to a person or organization in the local communities
  for conducting/operating their business according to the highest ethical standards.

- Donation of 50 backpacks to Backpacks for Kids Charity Program for our Canadian less
  fortunate children.
